I personally can’t imagine my life without a dishwasher anymore. I mean, who would find the time to actually go through all of the cutlery, pots, pans and plates day by day? Look, we’re a family of 5 members, do you know how much cutlery that is per day? It’s an overkill, regardless of how motivated the whole family is to clean up after themselves after each and every meal.

Let’s first explain the Bosch Dishwasher Cycle Times:
If you’re a first time owner you will soon figure out that you have two options, either you’re going to let your dishwasher work for a good two hours, spending more electricity and water then you would spend within a week of washing dishes by hand – or, you’re going to go with the Express feature. I’ve talked with some of my friends and we all agree that most of us either use the Heavy option for *really* dirty dishes or, in most cases, the express feature which lasts for about half an hour.
Now, in total you have six options, so let’s go through them quickly:
Bosch Serie 6 Dishwasher User Manual English
- The Express Cycle, and my favorite one, is taking around 30 minutes to wash your dishes, it will spend exactly 2.8 gallons of water (10.5 liters), and it will wash the dishes at a temperature of 113 Fahrenheit (45 Celsius).
- The Eco Cycle is a bit different, expect a working time of around 80 to 85 minutes, it’s going to spend anywhere between 2.5 to 3.8 gallons of water (9.3 to 14.5 liters) and wash your dishes on a heat of 113 to 122 Fahrenheit (45 to 50 Celsius).
- The Normal Cycle is in no way normal, as it takes around 130 to 135 minutes of work time, spends in-between (wait for it) 2.4 to 5.5 gallons of water (8.8 to 20.8 liters). No, I didn’t miss the numbers, it’s basically a huge difference in numbers, and it’s working at a heat of 113 to 122 Fahrenheit (45 to 50 Celsius).
- The Auto Cycle is taking anywhere between 105 to 129 minutes, again, almost similar to the above cycle, expect around two hours. It’s going to spend from 3.5-6.5 gallons of water (13.1-24.5 liters), and it’s going to wash the dishes at a temperature of around 127-150 Fahrenheit (53-66 Celsius).
- The Heavy Cycle is taking in-between 110 to 135 minutes, and expect to spend anywhere between 4.9 or 6.4 gallons of water (8.6 to 24.2 liters), and it’s going to wash at a temperature of around 150 Fahrenheit (70 Celsius).
That’s basically it. Those are the cycles, and as I mentioned above, if you’re rinsing your plates a bit, you can almost always use the Express Cycle. Why have your machine rumble around and spend electricity for 2 hours when the same job can be done within 30 minutes.

How to use the Bosch Dishwasher for the first time?
When it comes to the question on how to use the Bosch Dishwasher for the first time, the first thing which is coming as an answer is the explanation of dish washing cycles and times, which we did above, after that how to fill up the machine and, last but not least, how to start the process of cleaning your dishes.
How to use a Bosch Dishwasher first time:
Step 1: Load the machine with your dishes, watching out that everything is placed properly, without any dishes moving or creating an obstacle for the water head.
Step 2: Insert the detergent tabs in to their pockets, if you don’t have them, check out this link.
Step 3: Choose your cycle, we explained them above, and press the start button.
Step 4: Close the machine and wait until it’s finished, the machine will give you a signal once it’s done.
Step 6: Open the machine, take out the trays and leave the dishes to air dry
Step 7: Take all your dishes out, empty the machine and close the door
And that’s it, easy peasy. Now, if the machine is not starting, let’s jump to the next chapter:
What to do if the Bosch Dishwasher is not starting, at all?
If your Bosch dishwasher is not starting or if the dishwasher is not turning on, first check the electricity. In case you did the installation, go through all the steps to make sure that the device is connected to the outlet properly. If you didn’t do the installation, check with your main power unit if it’s providing electricity. Last but not least, try to see if you actually turned on the power button on the machine. If you can’t figure out the solutions by yourself, and if the machine can’t get any juice from the electric supply, then you have to call for a Bosch Dishwasher Repair Service.

What to do if the Bosch Dishwasher is not draining at the end of the cycle?
In case your Bosch Dishwasher is not draining at end of a specific cycle, if the dishwasher will not drain at all and you find a huge pool of dirty water paired with a “Not Draining E24” error, then these are the steps you need to take:
First step, is the filter causing the blockage?
When it comes to Bosch Dishwasher Filter Cleaning, then the process looks like this: the filter is located at the bottom of your dishwasher and its sole purpose is to block large pieces of food from going in to the hose which is draining the water out. Sometimes the same pieces of food which it’s suppose to block can also go in to the hose, which in return blocks the water from draining. So, our suggestions is, go through the filter, check if there are any pieces of glass, food or any other material, take it out.
Second step, is the Air Gap clogged?
Not all models have an air gap, some of them drain directly in to the garbage disposal through a method called high drain loop. If you think that you own a high drain loop system, skip this step. If you don’t know if you have it or not, check the back of your sink and try to locate a small hood or cylinder, it should have a white cover on it. Remove that cover with the hand or a screwdriver (depending on what model you have, some pop out, others need a screwdriver), remove the top of it and clean all the debris in and around of it and return it as it was. Once you sorted out these two steps, run the rinse cycle again, and it should be solved.
Additional problem: Not Draining E24 Error Code
This error code is an interesting one, since the PDF Manual says that it’s caused by a bent or clogged hose, which is weird. If you’re already familiar with the installation of your device, you know that the hose is not being touched after it was properly installed within the machine. But, regardless of that, the machine is still communicating the same error over and over, and what you need to do is clean the drain hose. For that, you will need a bucket, pliers and a screwdriver, and follow these steps:
- Disconnect the hose from your machine with pliers and a screwdriver, drain the water in to your bucket and check if the hose has any larger chunks in it.
- Put the machine in to the rinse cycle and hold the hose above your sink or larger bucket. If there is no water coming out, the hose is blocked, so use a plumbing snake or a hanger to push the clogs out of the hose.
- If you can’t find the problematic clog within the visible part of the hose, it’s probably located either behind or below the machine. You will need to pull the whole machine out, unscrew the hose, clean it up properly and return it back in. If you think this is to difficult, again, call a Bosch Dishwasher Repair Service.
What to do if the Bosch Dishwasher is stuck within a cycle? Reset it?
In case your Bosch Dishwasher is stuck on auto wash or within a specific cycle, then the only solution is to do a hard reset. Although the process of doing a Bosch Dishwasher Reset is a bit different from series to series, the core of the method is almost the same.
If you’re owning the Ascenta models, then you just need to open the door to access the buttons and then hold the Start-Reset button for about 5 seconds, or until all the indicators turn off. Shut the door and leave the device to finish the reset process.
For models that have a clock display, you need to hold the Start-Reset button until the clock resets to 0:00. Once they do that, close the door and wait for the clock to read 0:01 before you press the on-off button to finish the resetting process.
In case you don’t own any of the above models, then the process is slightly different, you still have to open the machine, but this time hold the on/off button for 10 seconds until the machine resets. At that point, close the door and let it reboot.
