Comments: After a season of use I have to say this is my favorite reel. It doesn't cast the furthest but it's consistent and easy to use. DC brakes shines on windy days. Recent fishing trip it was super windy, I had no problems while I was watching my friends picking out backlashes all day lol. $500 is alot for a reel but it's worth it. Did I mention the DC whine. It's feels like you're using alien tech. Throw it in A for dummy mode. Can't get any easier.

Comments: I bought this reel about 5 days ago and It had to the be the worst purchase of my life. I would rather buy 500 dollars worth of lures than this piece of scrap metal. It does not cast good and it is not smooth at all. I would much rather have 50 dollar wal-mart reel. If you want to waste all of your paycheck go ahead and it will be the biggest disappointment of your life. The only good thing is the sound the digital chip makes.

Comments: I purchased this reel at the beginning of the year with high hopes. All I got to say is that it bombs any lure you tie on. I mainly use the reel for jigs in the summer and jerk baits in the fall. It's nice not having to worry about casting in wind like you would with more traditional breaking system. The DC whine of the reel is the loudest out of all the DC reels on the market as of 2019. I mainly use flouro on the reel and it sure manages the line well and I have used braid, which gives even more distance with casting. Great to palm in your hand as well with all the metaniums and shimano reels in general. This reel isn't perfect however because it does get geary rather fast, so make sure to service it twice to once a year depending on the amount of use..other wise it's buttery smooth. Also the magnesium frame (not the ci4+ side plates) gets scratches rather easily.. I found out the hard way. Anyways it is a amazing reel and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who can afford it.

Comments: Not quite the casting distance you can get with the Metanium MGL but MAN! This thing can BOMB a hardbait, the DC line of Shimano reels are excellent for being very versatile reels. I have no problem throwing heavier 120+ size topwaters, but can dial down and use a 85 series without messing with the brakes. I do wish they offered some lower ratios, as in windy situations I find these things to be a lot more forgiving than the Metanium MGL

Comments: Ordered this reel as soon as TW had them available. It is a really nice reel and worth the high price tag. I have a Steez SV TWS as well and this will not replace it, nor the other way around. They are totally different reels. The Steez is lighter and I am more precise with it on short casts; great for light plastics. The Metanium DC is, IMO, the perfect jig reel. Need to bomb a cast into the next county? Done. Two clicks on the brakes and you're skipping the same jig under a dock or overhanging branch like a pro. I'll be adding another one of these to the arsenal, though I have no idea what I'll use it for.

Comments: Okay, so I've finally figured out what the pros and cons are of this reel. Bought the XG model for frogging and OH MY LORD does it bomb, you can dump the spool every cast w/ 60lb braid. Always wanted to hear that DC whine in person. Drag is plenty strong when cranked down and the ergonomics w/ my Steez XBD rod is quite comfortable. Now, I've owned a Daiwa Zillion SV for 2 years now that is still as smooth as it was out of the box, and after only a season of frogging the buttery smoothness of the Metanium was very much so gone in comparison to the Zillion. Now it is by no means grinding or anything but it is considerably tougher on the retrieve. I believe that it is due to the aluminum gears the Metanium has for weight reduction compared the brass gears of the Zillion. I own 2 Steez reels also and they are literally still buttery smooth from day I bought them, 100% no different. I sold the Metanium for another Steez A. Longevity is at the top of what I want in a reel and the Shimano reels are absolutely great reels but every Daiwa reel I have ever owned has aged better than my Shimano reels. Magnetic breaking systems cant wear out like the SVS pads the Shimanos come with. The Steez is beaten hard by the Metanium in distance but every thing else for me fits better with a Steez.

Comments: Got a Steez SV TWS a few months ago and after fishing it I immediately had buyers remorse. Was not worth the $500 price at all. Just got a few days in on this Metanium DC and WOW! Easily outcasts the Steez! Smoother and has more power for resistance baits too. This reel is actually worth the high price tag.

Comments: This reel is the apex of casting reels. It may be expensive, but its worth it. Paint chips easily so put a reel cover over it when in a rod box or in the car.

Comments: Don't get me wrong, this reel is one of the best on the market; but the Shimano Metanium MGL casts much further and is much smoother. Save yourself the money and stick with the MGL. Still amazing reel.
